The Royal Omani Amateur Radio Society was formed on 23rd December 1972, under the gracious patronage of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, A41AA.
 

The Royal Omani Amateur Radio Society (ROARS) aims at promoting cooperation and mutual understanding between all countries of the world in the field of telecommunications. Another aim of the Society is to develop and increase the skills of technical personnel, and to create a reserve of excellent technicians in the telecommunications field.

     There are many different aspects of amateur radio. In times of natural calamities, for example, radio operators can provide useful emergency communications and back up for the authorities. Because they are able to establish good international friendships around the world through personal contacts on the air, amateur radio enthusiasts can also act as ambassadors for the Sultanate of Oman.

     With over 300 members, a fully equipped headquarters and opening training programs for beginners, the Society has embraced all aspects of the hobby, and has made excellent technical progress over the years.
